Manchester United have lucky escape in January transfer window, staff relieved transfer fell through

Alejandro Garnacho attracted lots of interest in January but he was not sold.

Manchester United kept hold of one of their best young players in January, despite reports suggesting they would listen to offers for Alejandro Garnacho.

Ruben Amorim left Garnacho out of his squad to face Manchester City in December. This raised questions over the player’s future but he has since got his head down and worked his way back into United’s first-team.

Garnacho has contributed eight goals and six assists this season, and he helped United from the bench in their 2-0 win over FCSB in the Europa League last week.

United’s financial situation means they were trying to do deals that represent pure profit in the books. Sadly, this involves selling United academy graduates, but Garnacho has been kept.

Lucky escape for Manchester United

United rejected an offer from Napoli, who were keen on signing Garnacho this month.

Chelsea also expressed interest in Garnacho but the 20-year-old winger remained at the club.

The prospect of Garnacho’s sale would have led to uproar among United supporters.

Ineos tell us they want the best young talent at United, which makes any decision to sell Garnacho incredibly hypocritical.

That may be the reason United have kept Garnacho and got rid of Rashford instead.

It would have been a huge mistake to let Garnacho go midseason when United have already said goodbye to several forward players without replacing them. Amorim is limited enough as it is when it comes to options in attack.

Manchester United staff happy Alejandro Garnacho stays

There is a feeling of relief at Old Trafford because Garnacho is staying where he is.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United staff are relieved the club did not sell Garnacho.

There is a feeling that it would have been impossible for the club to have framed the possible departure of Garnacho as a positive.

Garnacho isn’t just the most exciting youngster at the club; the Argentina international also came through the youth ranks. He gets United more than most. It would be a shame to see him develop his game elsewhere.
