Man Utd’s sensible 2026 pre-season tour plans look inspired compared with Tottenham’s ludicrous decision

Manchester United will be feeling smug about their pre-season plans after seeing what Tottenham have arranged for the summer.

As it is a World Cup year, many of Manchester United’s international stars will be busy competing in the United States, Mexico and Canada over the summer.

United are planning a Wrexham friendly in Scandinavia and, according to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are set to remain in Europe for their 2026 pre-season tour.

United decided to stay in Europe to avoid players competing in the World Cup making several long-haul flights over the summer.

Man Utd’s pre-season plan makes much more sense than Tottenham’s

Since they met in the Europa League final last season, United and Tottenham have been on very different trajectories.

While United look set to qualify for the Champions League, Tottenham are facing relegation to the Championship.

Spurs have now announced their 2026 pre-season plans on X, and the North London club have ludicrously decided to travel to New Zealand.

Tottenham will make a 23,000-mile round trip to New Zealand and back while players are also competing in the World Cup.

Man Utd learned from ’embarrassing’ 2025 post-season tour

This time last season, United were staring at their worst-ever Premier League finish, and it was followed up by a post-season tour of Asia directly after the campaign ended.

The 2025 post-season tour was labelled “embarrassing” by fans and a defeat to ASEAN All-Stars only added to the misery.

United raised £8m in revenue from the tour, but that was the only silver lining to an otherwise disastrous plan.

This time around, Ineos are prioritising player welfare and limiting travel miles over the summer.
