Manchester United are beginning to see some injury problems creep into the squad, but this might open a gap for one youngster to make his debut.

Having been relatively injury-free during the season until recently, Manchester United’s first test of the squad has arrived.

Ruben Amorim confirmed three injury concerns for United ahead of Monday night’s clash with Everton at Old Trafford, with Benjamin Sesko’s absence set to open up space for an attacking substitute.

This is unlikely to be a like-for-like change, with Chido Obi not seen in first-team training. Therefore, it could be time for a player to finally make his senior introduction, 18 months after he was considered ready.

Shea Lacey is the youngster all Manchester United fans are expecting to become the latest academy debutant, and this is for good reason.

United have long considered Lacey ready for the first team, with reports in April 2024 suggesting that he was being tipped to make the jump up.

Lacey since had to overcome injury problems, which saw him in and out of the academy sides with setback after setback.

However, this season has seen Lacey at his absolute best for United, and also reached new heights, which has thrust him potentially into debut territory.

Ahead of United facing Everton, Lacey was in first-team training and with Amorim lacking options going forward, he should absolutely get his first involvement in the matchday squad.

Lacey is expected to step up during AFCON, which is only a few weeks away, so Amorim should be looking to get his wonderkid used to things in advance.

Everton at home is a game United should be dominating, and recent Old Trafford performances suggest a win is on the way, so Lacey on the bench to potentially make his debut is a no-brainer.

In addition, United have been poor from the bench this season and having Lacey would give Amorim potential goals and creativity to turn to if needed.
