Man Utd must swoop for City wonderkid who was the best player in FA Youth Cup final

Manchester United were beaten in the final of the 2026 FA Youth Cup, with Manchester City having the difference-maker on their side.

After a brilliant campaign, Manchester United’s U18 side fell at the final hurdle to a physical Manchester City side.

City beat United 2-1 at the Joie Stadium, with the main difference being the wingers for City, who were too quick, powerful, and evasive for United’s defence.

Ryan McAidoo was one, while Reigan Heskey, son of Emile, also gave the United defence nightmares. But United could get the chance to take the latter from City this summer.

Reigan Heskey could be a market opportunity for Manchester United

United eyes watched enviously as Heskey starred for City in that final, but it has now emerged that the 18-year-old could actually be on the market this summer.

Do you agree with Ineos’ recruitment model of signing wonderkids?

According to reporter Pete O’Rourke on X, Heskey is being monitored by a host of top clubs in England and abroad this summer.

This is because Heskey’s scholarship deal is set to expire on June 30th, and as of yet, there is no agreement between the player and City.

United should be lining up for this deal if Heskey is interested in being a first-team option alongside Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu at Old Trafford.

He may prefer a move somewhere that he is guaranteed first-team football, but United should be making interest known.

It is a market opportunity United can’t ignore, and should at least be making an attempt to sign him.

Heskey could be a smart signing for United

Few City academy players actually spend their career there, and with McAidoo already getting senior opportunities, Heskey might be the odd one out.

This is completely insane because he is a special talent.

In the Youth Cup, he was absolutely brilliant, and at times, he looked like a professional playing against a young United side.

Heskey is the kind of winger who takes the ball and drives at defences with speed and power, almost impossible to stop unless you foul him.

United don’t have a player like this, and the desire for a left-winger this summer is to find a profile like this, to interchange with the current options.

Heskey would be a smart addition for what could be just a compensation fee once his deal expires with City.

Definitely one to watch.
