Man Utd might end up getting free run at Elliot Anderson this summer, thanks to Man City

Elliot Anderson remains the hottest commodity of this summer, and Manchester United haven’t given up on signing him.

Despite recent Manchester United links to Aurelien Tchouameni, Andy Mitten has stated that Elliot Anderson remains number one.

Anderson has been United’s top target all year, with Manchester City’s interest the only factor in confidence over signing him fading of late.

However, due to various factors, including City’s current transfer plans, which could hand United a free run at Anderson.

Manchester United could get free run at Elliot Anderson

While City had an interest in signing Anderson, this move is far from nailed on.

United got an Anderson boost when Rodri’s move to Real Madrid hit a hurdle, which could see City not needing to replace the Spaniard.

Now, there is additional hope, because according to The Athletic, City are considering a rescue mission to sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea.

This deal would set City back over £100m, considering what he cost Chelsea a couple of years ago.

No club will be spending £100m twice on two midfielders this summer, and traditionally, City don’t spend that big on one player, so signing Fernandez would end their Anderson chase.

This would almost certainly make United the clear favourites.

United are ahead of anyone else for Anderson

Frustratingly, without City’s interest, United would be the clear runaway favourites to sign Anderson this summer.

This is because Forest are demanding potentially as much as £125m, which few clubs could afford, albeit United might also be reluctant to spend this amount.

Arsenal surely won’t sign a big midfielder this summer, given their attacking woes, while Liverpool are unlikely to afford him.

Meanwhile, neither Chelsea nor Newcastle will have Champions League football and therefore will be non-starters in this Anderson race.

United might sign Anderson anyway ahead of City, but Fernandez interest would give the Red Devils a clear run.
