Manchester United are looking to sign a left-back this summer, with Lewis Hall from Newcastle looking like the best option on the market.
This summer, Manchester United are in the market for someone to effectively succeed Luke Shaw at the club long term, with the 30-year-old facing contract expiry next summer.
United are keen on Lewis Hall to fill this position as the Newcastle defender continues to make himself the standout English left-back in the league.
Hall is almost a copy-paste of a young Shaw, minus the injury problems. But United already has a player who could become the successor to the club’s current longest-serving player.
Should Man United try sign Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall this summer?
How much is Lewis Hall worth (under contract until 2029)? 🤔

Harry Amass can be Michael Carrick’s own Lewis Hall
While Hall is a phenomenal player, there has been discussion that he will cost a whopping £70m this summer, and as good as he is, this would be a ridiculous decision for a left-back.
Especially when Harry Amass is coming through in the same position.
Amass has spent most of 2026 injured so far, but he will be back for pre-season with United, and Michael Carrick will find him to be a first-team-ready player.
Before this injury, Amass was sensational for Sheffield Wednesday in their relegation side, which was the worst team in the Championship, but the United loanee stood out.
These performances earned Amass a move elsewhere, joining Norwich, only to get injured in week one.
When fit, Amass has all the hallmarks of a young Shaw: progressive running, technically gifted, stocky, and on his loan, he developed the grit and intensity that is needed in the Premier League.
Everything points towards Amass being top-tier during his career and might be ready to deputise Shaw next season for United, making £70m on Hall feel like a mistake.
Hall is almost three years older than Amass, so even with a loan next season, Amass would return with time to still grow into becoming a top-class left-back.
Luke Shaw has predicted Amass will be a star and under the tutelage of his hero, he might sooner than later.
Which youngster are you MOST excited to watch during pre-season?
With the World Cup this summer, pre-season will have plenty of academy involvement🔮
United can use £70m better this summer
Hall would be a good signing; however, right now, there isn’t even a guarantee he is better than Shaw, meaning it could be a massive chunk of the transfer budget just to have him on the bench for the biggest games.
Instead, United can plan around Shaw and prioritise playing him in the big games, giving Amass the cup ties and when Shaw is tired, which is more than enough game time for his development to then take over in 2027.
Amass showed in the Championship that he is good enough for professional football, and as a second choice to Shaw, he would thrive.
Hall would be the answer if United were desperate, but Amass could quite literally evolve into the exact player Hall is, with shared traits and qualities. They are three of the same player mould, so United should develop their own before spending massively on another.
