Manchester United’s reported decision over Raphael Varane’s future has shown exactly where their priorities lie.
Raphael Varane has had a rather difficult time of things of late for Manchester United but looks to have broken back into the first-team picture following weeks out of the starting 11.
Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans were the centre-back pairing with the Frenchman limited to substitute appearances but an injury that the English defender suffered against Bayern Munich has kept him out of the team.
Despite his resurgence, United have reportedly made their decision over Varane’s future according to the Daily Mail and it is not looking promising at all.

Varane’s future
United looks set to not trigger the extension in the Frenchman’s contract, which has understandably drawn the ire and frustration of the fanbase.
Perhaps the most perplexing aspect of this decision is that they have, according to The Athletic, triggered an extension in Victor Lindelof’s contract. The Swedish defender has just been acceptable for the Red Devils but he has certainly not pulled up trees this season.
Varane, however, was superb for the Red Devils alongside Lisandro Martinez last season and has been great recently and when Lindelof had to come into the team, the French defender was a leader for the Red Devils.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and are Ineos reportedly set to make all of the decisions when it comes to the sporting side of the club, but it’s unclear how involved they are in this one.
With Ineos still having to wait 4-6 weeks before really getting their teeth into decisions at the club, you wonder if this has been agreed upon prior to the British billionaire’s arrival.
Glazers greed
The report from the Daily Mail states that the Red Devils are concerned about the wages that the former Real Madrid defender is earning, which is believed to be around £340,000 a week.
However, it has to be argued that, unlike some of the club’s other top earners namely Jadon Sancho, the Frenchman deserves his wages. When he was in and out of the team a few weeks back, the 30-year-old got his head down and worked hard and has been rewarded.
When the club eventually moves on Sancho, those astronomical wages he is earning, believed to be £300,000 a week based on performances according to The Athletic, would be available.
Allowing such an experienced player like Varane to potentially leave the club on a free just highlights once again the wilful negligence of the American family, who continue to be a burden.
