Man United must take advantage of well-timed Thomas Frank crisis at Tottenham

Manchester United resume their Premier League campaign next weekend with a trip to North London to face Tottenham.

In what will be a repeat of last year’s Europa League final, Manchester United face Tottenham on Saturday afternoon, and the Red Devils will look to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League.

A 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest ended United’s three-match winning streak, but Ruben Amorim kept the tone positive despite only taking one point.

The Red Devils still sit eighth in the Premier League table and are well in the mix for Champions League qualification.

Against Forest, Amorim faced newly-appointed Sean Dyche, but against Tottenham, he will come head-to-head with an under-pressure Thomas Frank.

Tottenham in ‘crisis’ ahead of Man Utd clash

United lost the Europa League final to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham last season, yet he was still sacked over the summer and replaced by Thomas Frank.

Frank made a bright start at Spurs, and they currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, level on points with United.

But Tottenham’s recent 1-0 defeat to Chelsea brought an eruption of boos from home fans, and Frank’s own players appeared to snub him on the pitch.

Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence both appeared to walk past Frank, choosing not to shake their manager’s hand before storming down the tunnel.

While Frank played down the incident in his press conference, The Mirror labelled it as a “crisis” for the Tottenham manager, who saw his side create their lowest xG total (0.05) in a match since 2012/13.

As per talkSPORT, Frank has been urged to drop both players after they showed a “lack of respect”.

Frank will have to face Tottenham’s home support again on Saturday when United visit, and Amorim and his players must be ready to take advantage of any nerves or friction.

Ruben Amorim’s record vs Thomas Frank

Amorim knows better than anyone what it is like to be a Premier League manager under fire, and there will be big pressure on Frank heading into Saturday’s clash.

Frank was linked to the United job after Erik ten Hag’s sacking, but Ineos unanimously decided that Amorim was the right man for the role.

Both managers have only faced each other one time throughout their careers, when United lost 4-3 to Brentford in the Premier League last season.

Mason Mount, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo were on the scoresheet for United, but it wasn’t enough for Amorim to pick up three points against Frank’s side.
