Man United must avoid one thing as Jadon Sancho closes in on return to Borussia Dortmund

As Jadon Sancho closes in on a return to Borussia Dortmund, there is one thing Manchester United must avoid including in the deal.

It is no secret that Jadon Sancho has had a torrid time at Manchester United. After being brought in two and a half years ago under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Englishman has simply not proven himself enough at Old Trafford.

With just 12 goals and six assists in two full seasons at United, before this disastrous campaign, Sancho has simply not done enough to justify the £73 million price that the Red Devils spent on him and perhaps it is time to cash in.

This season has somehow gotten even worse for the United forward as he has been exiled from the first-team picture following a rather public dispute.

Sancho closing in on Dortmund move

All of the murmurings have been that Sancho is now firmly on his way back to Borussia Dortmund in this January window with The Athletic claiming the German giants will pay a nominal fee of just £2.6 million until he returns to Old Trafford in May.

Naturally, the German side are happy with this arrangement as they get a player back that they sold for 36 times that amount two seasons ago for such a small fee.

However, one of the big worries for United fans has to be whether the Red Devils will include a buy option in this deal, if they do, this would be an unmitigated disaster.

There have been no details about a potential buy option and for the benefit of those at United, this will have to remain this way.

If, for example, United included a £30 million buy option in the deal to take Sancho to Dortmund and the English forward hit 10 goals and 10 assists, which he has done on multiple occasions for the German side, then the Red Devils would lose out on more cash to recoup.

What United need to do

A dry loan for six months before the Englishman returns to the club in the summer is the best option for everyone.

If Sancho does exceed expectations back in Germany, United could either bring him into the fold under a new manager, if Erik ten Hag continues to struggle, or sell him for a good fee elsewhere.

At this moment in time, recouping the £73 million they paid for the Englishman seems remote but in six months, if he performs, this could be a possibility.

United have to be smart when it comes to the sale of one of their biggest assets.
