Manchester United must look to 21-year-old playmaker to take Rasmus Hojlund to the next level

One Manchester United star continued to struggle for the Red Devils despite playing against a side in the EFL League Two.

Despite the Red Devils scoring four goals on the night in the 4-2 victory, the game really should have been out of sight at half-time.

Despite netting for Manchester United in Wales, Rasmus Hojlund really struggled during the game and had just one chance in the encounter and that was only due to the lucky bounce in the penalty box.

The Danish striker hit his 8th goal of the season in all competitions but had his wingers done their job better, Hojlund may well have had a hattrick at Rodney Parade.

Hojlund’s struggles

Throughout the game, the 20-year-old was in a good position countless times for his teammates to find him in the penalty box and continue his good form.

However, for whatever reason, neither Antony or Alejandro Garnacho picked him out and the former Atalanta striker became more and more irate as time went on.

One example in particular seemed to frustrate the Dane more than most and that was the chance in the first half which should have been an easy square ball for Hojlund to finish but instead, Garnacho decided to take the shot on himself and smashed the crossbar.

Ironically, Hojlund’s last three goals have not been assisted by a United player which really highlights the problems that the Dane is currently experiencing as the spearhead of the Red Devils’ attack.

How can United solve this problem

There is no question that Hojlund’s issues in the first team are due to tactical problems as opposed to anything else.

However, the wingers on either side of Hojlund did not help with both Garnacho and Antony being players who prefer to shoot first, this hinders the 20-year-old.

One player who could come in and solve this problem is Amad Diallo who continues to be shunned in the first team with Antony being Ten Hag’s preference for that position.

The Ivorian had a promising cameo against Nottingham Forest but he hasn’t been seen since. The favouritism shown by the Dutchman may well be his downfall.

It is a tactical problem but Ten Hag could help himself with his team selection to solve the Hojlund conundrum.
