Karim Adeyemi fined following poor display, it gives Ruben Amorim a reason to avoid transfer

Manchester United were linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi earlier this season, but Ruben Amorim may need to think twice before launching a transfer pursuit as the German faces disciplinary action following a recent performance.

The January transfer window is just around the corner. It means there is going to be plenty of speculation surrounding Manchester United, with Ruben Amorim keen on continuing to rebuild the squad at his disposal.

United signed three attacking players in the summer, and it is understood that Amorim wants to focus on the midfield department in 2026. That has not prevented more attacking players from being linked with a move to Old Trafford, including Antoine Semenyo, who could play as a wing-back in Amorim’s system.

Would Karim Adeyemi be a good signing for Manchester United?

Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi emerged as a United target in November, with his agent Jorge Mendes offering the player to a range of clubs.

Adeyemi is currently in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. It should come as an eye-opener to Amorim, Ineos or anyone else suggesting that the German international should be bought by United.

Man Utd target Karim Adeyemi fined for tantrum after substitution

Borussia Dortmund recorded a 2-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, but Adeyemi did not have a night to remember for the Bundesliga club.

Adeyemi reacted angrily when substituted by Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac in the 60th minute. He attempted to walk straight into the locker room before being stopped by the club’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, and directed to sit on the bench.

Speaking to Sky Germany’s Patrick Berger, Kehl confirmed that Adeyemi would be fined for his behaviour following a below-par performance.

“His substitution was completely justified,” Kehl said.

“He didn’t play well. He will receive a fine for that. There will be something to talk about. I don’t want to see that reaction, the coach doesn’t, the team doesn’t.”

This sort of behaviour at United would attract a lot more attention, so it’s not something Amorim will want to have around his team.

Furthermore, Kovac’s comments suggested he could have taken Adeyemi off at half-time, but he wanted to spare him the embarrassment.

“One has to be reasonable,” Kovac told Sat1, as quoted by Get Football News Germany.

“I could have made the substitution at half-time, but I didn’t want to. I wanted to give him another chance.”

Karim Adeyemi stats this season

Adeyemi has made 22 appearances for Dortmund this season.

The German star has registered nine goal contributions, with six of those being goals he scored.

Adeyemi needs to work on controlling his anger if he is to reach his potential as a footballer.

That sort of behaviour on Friday night may tarnish his reputation among top clubs.
