James Garner now has chance to emulate the best player he saw at Man Utd by re-signing for the club

James Garner has been linked with a return to Manchester United, which means he could emulate the ‘best’ player he saw during his time at the club.

It has been three years since James Garner left Manchester United, only to sign for Everton, and he has since become a key player under David Moyes.

Garner signed a four-year deal at Everton after graduating from United’s academy. He was handed his debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, although trained with the first team when Jose Mourinho was in charge.

After making seven appearances for United’s first team, Garner has gone on to play in 93 games for Everton, registering eight goal contributions.

It is now understood that United are exploring a bid for Garner that could see him return to Old Trafford.

Garner claims a cruel injury setback ‘killed’ his chance under Erik ten Hag and inevitably led to his exit.

Even though Garner trained with Cristiano Ronaldo, the midfielder claims Paul Pogba was the ‘best player’ he trained with at United.

Now, there’s a possibility that Garner could emulate Pogba by re-signing for United.

Opinion: James Garner could follow in Paul Pogba’s footsteps

Like Pogba, Garner left United after coming through the youth ranks and getting a taste of first-team action.

Pogba was offered a new contract to stay, but he would sign a better deal at Juventus that guaranteed him more action in the senior team.

The Frenchman’s return to Old Trafford was a high-profile saga, but he failed to reach expectations, and his time at the club was marred by plenty of controversy.

Pogba fell out with Mourinho during his time at the club, but Garner will hope for a more positive return if he does re-sign for United.

One of the biggest gripes United can have with Pogba is the fact that he left the club twice as a free agent. To make it worse, £89 million was spent to bring him back from Juventus six years after his initial exit. It was a world-record transfer fee at the time.

However, Everton would not demand a figure like that for Garner’s signature.

Garner’s current deal at Everton is set to expire in June 2026.

Recent reports suggest that Everton is currently in negotiations with Garner to offer him a new deal following his impressive form under Moyes.

Paul Pogba suffers another blow ahead of football return

After a two-year absence from football, Pogba signed for Marseille in the summer.

His lengthy absence from action meant it has taken the 32-year-old over three months to work on his fitness.

Many hoped Pogba would return for Monaco’s 2-2 draw with Ineos-owned Nice, but he is now set to miss the upcoming game against Angers.

Unfortunately for the former United midfielder, Pogba’s return has been postponed for another two weeks through injury – ruling him out of Monaco’s tie against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League next Wednesday.

“We expected him to be available for the next match,” confirmed AS Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro, as quoted by talkSPORT.

“That is no longer the case. Paul had a small problem last week that will cost us at least two more weeks.

“It is the first negative episode that we have had since we started the process with him. Given how long he has been out of activity, it can happen.

“It isn’t the end of the world; we have just postponed for two weeks to prepare him better. We hope to have him available soon.”
