If history repeats itself, 17th December 2023 could be judgement day for Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag is arguably at his lowest point as manager of Manchester United.

The Dutchman comes off the back of a derby defeat, and now a Carabao Cup exit. Things are really not going well at the club.

This has led to, for the first time in his Manchester United career, speculation that maybe he isn’t the right man for the job.

If history repeats itself, Erik ten Hag should be extremely fearful for the 17th of December 2023.

Erik ten Hag could suffer same fate as Jose Mourinho

Flashback to the 17th of December 2018, Jose Mourinho and his struggling Manchester United side have just lost the day before to Liverpool.

Jose’s side were absolutely battered at Anfield. Goals from Sadio Mane and a Xherdan Shaqiri double were enough to sink the Red Devils, who are now 18 points off the Liverpudlians in top spot.

The very next morning, Manchester United sacked Mourinho after identifying a catalogue of his failings at the club.

It was believed that the club had made a change after no progress with results or style despite spending nearly £400m on players.

You’ll never guess who Ten Hag is facing on the 17th.

Ten Hag vs Liverpool could be judgement day

On the 17th of December 2023, Ten Hag travels to Anfield, will likely be a number of points off the top spot and has spent £400m on players. Gulp.

History does have a tendency to repeat itself, so could this seriously be judgement day for Ten Hag?

A lot depends on this next run of fixtures he faces. If results are sporadic up until then, a trip to Merseyside really could be the final nail in the coffin.

Don’t get us wrong, we sincerely hope not. But the coincidences are evidently there. Time will tell.
