‘He’s a specialist’: Why Casemiro believes Michael Carrick is ‘Ancelotti-style’ answer to Man Utd’s coaching search

Brazil and Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has perfectly encapsulated what Michael Carrick can bring to the table in equal measures to a potential Carlo Ancelotti appointment.

Michael Carrick has had his name floated around for the permanent Manchester United manager role after his strong start as interim head coach at the club.

United have lost only once in 10 Premier League matches under Carrick, who was installed in his current post in January after Ruben Amorim was sacked as manager.

Casemiro has enjoyed a superb run of form under United legend Carrick ahead of representing Brazil at the 2026 World Cup in the summer under Carlo Ancelotti.

Casemiro’s recognition of Michael Carrick’s midfield knowledge shows that a Carlo Ancelotti pursuit is not necessary

Ruben Amorim might have brought issues upon himself with the midfield, both through his decisions and commitment of his Manchester United tactical system.

However, Michael Carrick immediately offered much-needed stability to the Red Devils midfield, with Casemiro being a key part of his plans at Old Trafford.

The Man Utd interim head coach moved Bruno Fernandes out of the two-man pivot and England international Kobbie Mainoo was brought back into the starting XI.

Casemiro has been impactful from set-pieces thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ stunning run of form as a No 10, while Kobbie Mainoo has been revitalised for the Red Devils.

Speaking after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to France last Thursday, Casemiro labelled Carrick’s insight into the Man Utd midfield as nothing short of being a “specialist.”

“Above all, Michael is a specialist in my position on the field; he was a truly great player,” he said, as per Sky Sports, citing a report from The Athletic.

“That makes everything much easier and he is always talking to us. I feel like we are in a good dynamic right now in Manchester and my objective now is to get the club back into the Champions League.”

Michael Carrick’s ‘speciality’ is more important than a Carlo Ancelotti appointment when it comes to a Man Utd midfield rebuild

United are expected to rebuild their midfield in the summer and Casemiro won’t be at Old Trafford for the 2026-27 campaign once his contract expires in June.

The Red Devils already face a tall order with their midfield overhaul, not to mention scouting a replacement for Amorim in the Old Trafford hot seat in the summer.

Carlo Ancelotti is all too familiar with the midfield position from his midfield playing days, but there are no assurances that the Italian would come to United in the first place.

The 66-year-old manager is out of contract with Brazil after the World Cup tournament, but he could end up getting his future locked down before that.

Instead, Man Utd have an option like Carrick right in front of them and someone who perfectly understands what it takes to play in the Red Devils midfield.

With Carrick receiving high praise from Casemiro for his midfield insight, the interim boss would be the perfect fit to oversee the position’s overhaul in the summer.
