Manchester United are yet to finalise a senior contract for wonderkid Godwill Kukonki.
Godwill Kukonki is considered one of the most exciting prospects in Manchester United’s academy, especially when it comes to defenders.
Ruben Amorim called up Kukonki into first-team training during his tenure as United head coach after being impressed by the 6ft 5in centre-back.
But Kukonki’s youth contract has expired and he wasn’t named on United’s retain list. Kukonki was offered a new deal in March 2025, but he is yet to finalise an agreement.

According to BBC, Kukonki is on the brink of agreeing a long-term deal as a senior United player.
The 17-year-old is highly-rated around Carrington and has been included in six senior matchday squads.
After Lisandro Martinez’s World Cup injury, Michael Carrick is suddenly staring at a centre-back crisis in the first team. Matthijs de Ligt has undergone surgery and is expected to miss the start of the 2026/27 season.
Carrick has already experimented with Jacob Devaney at centre-back in the defeat to Wrexham in pre-season, and he can also test the capability of Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven as a pairing.
But Kukonki should look at United’s defensive uncertainty as a golden opportunity for him to break through at Old Trafford.

If United are concerned about Martinez and De Ligt’s injury record and want to move on, then Ineos could soon be scouring the transfer market for centre-back options.
Harry Maguire’s contract expires in 2027 so United will have to address the centre-back position in the coming years.

But if Kukonki commits to United and is given a chance to break through in the first team, he could save the club millions in the transfer market.
