Four players Man Utd could start at left wing-back vs Tottenham

Ruben Amorim has four options available to select from at left-wing back when Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but it remains to be seen if he will stick with Diogo Dalot after the Portuguese full-back’s underwhelming display against Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest to make it four matches unbeaten last Saturday.

Ruben Amorim’s side will try to increase their unbeaten run by getting back to winning ways this weekend, when they seek revenge from Tottenham Hotspur after losing the Europa League final against the London outfit in May.

United currently have the same amount of points as Tottenham (17), albeit with a worse goal difference, but a win would see the Red Devils overtake Thomas Frank’s side in the table.

After dropping points against Forest, Amorim may look to make changes to his team for the trip to London.

It raises a question about who should start at left wing-back because nobody has been able to make the role their own yet.

Here are four options Amorim could select at left wing-back.

Diogo Dalot

Dalot was among United’s lowest-rated performers against Forest after being repeatedly caught out of position. The Portugal international was at fault for Nicolo Savona’s goal, which gave the hosts a surprise lead five minutes into the second half.

Amorim may decide to switch things around against Spurs by selecting one of his other three options at left wing-back.

Patrick Dorgu

Although Patrick Dorgu is probably most likely to return to the line-up, the young Dane has yet to fully convince United fans that he is the answer. At the age of 21, Amorim has been careful not to play the former Lecce ace every week.

Dorgu has made 10 appearances so far this season, and he will be hoping to add to his tally of one assist.

Luke Shaw

Amorim has been careful not to use Luke Shaw at left wing-back, despite playing as a full-back for most of his professional career. The 30-year-old has been a mainstay in the back-three along with Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.

While Lisandro Martinez’s return could see Amorim trial Shaw at left wing-back in the future, it’s hard to imagine why he would take him out of his current role now.

Furthermore, Phil Jones reckons Shaw is back to his best in his new role at centre-back.

Diego Leon

It would be a shock to see Diego Leon given his United debut away at Tottenham when United already have three senior players ahead of the Paraguayan in the pecking order.

Leon’s time will come, but Amorim has no reason to throw him into such a fixture when three senior options are available.

A cameo from the bench is a possibility, although that would still come as a surprise.
