After a week of planning, Manchester United decided that Michael Carrick was the man to replace Ruben Amorim instead of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Having only been appointed by the club on Tuesday, Michael Carrick has wasted no time at all getting to work with his Manchester United team.
Carrick beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to the post, with the Norwegian unable to secure a second spell as interim head coach of United.
The reason for the decision was that United viewed Solskjaer as a step backwards, representing a past in which the club was run poorly.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe said Ed Woodward was clueless, and so it would make sense not to repeat a decision that he made. But while management is not on the cards at Carrington for Solskjaer, another role is perfect.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be a brilliant director of football for Manchester United
United made the right decision by not choosing Solskjaer as interim head coach, but there is a role that he would be perfect for, which is a director of football.
This role is currently taken by Jason Wilcox, but a change is expected in the near future, with the former Manchester City academy chief losing popularity amongst the fanbase every day.

Wilcox interfered under Ruben Amorim, causing the blow-up moment that led to his sacking, and another wrong decision could see Ineos make a change, with Solskjaer potentially the perfect replacement.
In his time at United, Solskjaer’s talent ID was excellent, with the club ignoring some transfer suggestions that would have been incredible for the Red Devils.
These included Erling Haaland, Moises Caicedo, and Declan Rice, all of whom would be starters right now.
In addition, Solskjaer understands the club and also would understand his role, which wouldn’t see conflict between the head coach and director of football.
How would you RATE Jason Wilcox’s performance for Manchester United as DOF?
Is the criticism unfair? Or should Ineos be looking to replace Wilcox with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or a more experienced sporting director?
Ineos need to seriously reconsider Jason Wilcox’s role
Over the past 13 months, Wilcox has been the ‘king-maker’ at Manchester United in regards to the sporting project, having stepped up to replace Dan Ashworth.
However, Wilcox is drastically underqualified to be taking such a pivotal role in United’s rebuild.
Ineos should therefore be considering more experienced director of football options across Europe.
There is also growing discontent over Wilcox’s Man City links and also his Leeds links, which have fans wondering whether he is what is best for United.
United must reconsider, and Solskjaer could be the perfect replacement if Wilcox’s time is up.
