Manchester United and Barcelona could come to an effective compromise to settle the future of Marcus Rashford after Fabrizio Romano’s latest report on the player.

The 28-year-old England international has revived his career away from Old Trafford after his public falling out with former Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim.

Rashford has established himself as a key player for Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and has impressed at times for the Spanish side in the 2025-26 season so far.

The on-loan United forward has now netted 10 times and registered 13 assists in 34 matches across all competitions for the defending Spanish champions.

Fabrizio Romano’s news on Man Utd loanee Marcus Rashford amid the Barcelona player’s ongoing season in La Liga

Barcelona’s loan deal for Marcus Rashford included a clause for the reigning La Liga champions to make the Manchester United star’s move permanent for £30.3m.

The Spanish side have been covering the majority of Rashford’s United wages as part of his 12-month loan, with the England star also taking a pay cut in the deal.

United are keen to offload Rashford in the summer and the Red Devils would benefit from the Premier League’s existing Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

How does that change Man Utd's transfer plans?

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, Fabrizio Romano revealed that United are demanding that Rashford’s full transfer package must be paid upfront by Barcelona.

“Barcelona want to keep Marcus Rashford beyond this season,” he wrote.

“[They are] planning to negotiate and reduce the €30m [£26m] buy option from Man United.

“[Man Utd] insist on Rashford’s fixed price to be received in full: €30m — salary also a topic to discuss over [the] next months.”

The effective compromise Man Utd and Barcelona might need to settle the Marcus Rashford situation once and for all

United are already in their post-Rashford era and Ineos appear unlikely to U-turn now, no matter how much Michael Carrick has been linked with the player.

Meanwhile, Barcelona have benefited from having Rashford among their ranks this season and the cash-strapped La Liga club are keen to keep hold of him.

What do you think is Marcus Rashford’s legacy at Man Utd?

United cannot pass up on the opportunity of securing pure profit from a Rashford transfer, but a compromise might need to be met over a summer transfer.

The Red Devils and Barcelona could look to explore a payment structure over the next three seasons for the full £30.3m to be paid for Three Lions star Rashford.

Barcelona could alternatively offer to pay a lower upfront fee of £22m for Rashford and agree to easy add-ons that could be achieved in the near future for United.

A riskier option for United would be to add a sell-on clause of 25 per cent, though there is no assurance that it could pay off in the long term over this deal.
