Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri will be hoping for a Carabao Cup recall this week. Supporters want to see him too.

The early days of October looked positive for Hannibal Mejbri. He started three out of four games in three different competitions, and appeared to gain the trust of manager Erik ten Hag. This came fresh off a long range goal as substitute in the home loss to Brighton.

Hannibal has been overlooked since his opening 45 minutes against Galatasaray, but with many expecting Manchester United to make changes this week, Hannibal is one of the many options to consider.

After the woeful defeat to City, there is a real case to get Hannibal involved, at some stage or another. Even an appearance as a substitute would be a forward step for a player with no minutes since October 3.

Hannibal is fresh

It is Hannibal’s recent lack of minutes in a Manchester United shirt which makes him such an intriguing options.

The Tunisian international is a bundle of energy, who can give United some much-needed dynamism in midfield, which was so sorely lacking at the weekend.

United’s players expended a lot of energy fruitlessly chasing City’s stars around Old Trafford on Sunday and having a totally fresh player is important. Hannibal is made for this.

Hannibal set a record in Manchester United’s win over Burnley, running 12.9 kilometres. According to Sky Sports this was more than any Manchester United player has run in a game since 2019.

It is bemusing then, that Hannibal has not played a single minute in the Premier League since.

He is the ideal player to bring in for a cup tie against Newcastle this week when the Old Trafford crowd needs a lift.

Manchester United fans want to see a reaction

Nobody likes to lose a game, especially a home derby against City. Erik ten Hag was very unhappy after the game and surely has to make changes.

Manchester United fans want something to smile about, and want to see a reaction. Hannibal is the type of player who can gee up the crowd through his sheer enthusiasm, and he will be determined to take his chance if it comes his way.

United do have options. It’s possible Casemiro returns, Mason Mount will want to start, and Kobbie Mainoo is also back in the mix. United have to get the balance right, against top quality opposition.

So there is no guarantee Hannibal starts, but we expect to see him involved one way or another during the cup tie.
