Erik ten Hag has broken another record as a Manchester United manager despite the tough start to the season at Old Trafford.
The last-gasp win over Fulham keeps Manchester United in touch with the top five and the former Ajax boss has broken a record after the victory.
The win in West London makes it Erik ten Hag’s 50th for the Red Devils which is the joint quickest time it has taken a United manager to reach that figure alongside Ernest Mangnall, manager in 1908.
The Dutchman may not be perfect but it is records like this that may show sticking with the 53-year-old could be beneficial in the long-term.
Ten Hag looking ahead
When asked about the record that he has now broken, the Dutchman was typically closed off and wanted to look ahead to Wednesday’s game against FC Copenhagen.
“We have to win every game,” said Ten Hag to the United website, when asked about the record. “With this win, it’s OK. We take it with us [for] 24 hours. Then we focus on the next game and it is an important game in Copenhagen.”
That game in Denmark will be crucial to United’s hopes of qualifying from the group as another win over Copenhagen would mean they would need just one more win in Turkey to guarantee qualification to the next round of the competition.
Ten Hag deserves time
The Dutchman has built up so much goodwill over the past 12-18 months that it’s easy to see why the United fanbase are so keen on sticking by the former Ajax man.
The circumstances he has had to navigate this season have been almost ridiculous. Whether it’s the injury issues or player fallouts, the Dutchman has had to deal with a lot so far, just three months into the season.
If he can navigate this difficult period and get the bulk of his squad back, things could be on the up for the 53-year-old.
