Eduardo Camavinga could get over World Cup snub with Man Utd transfer

Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga was the most notable absentee from the 26-man France squad, so a summer move could be exactly what the midfielder needs to reboot his career.

Didier Deschamps named his France squad for the 2026 World Cup this week, and as expected, it’s stocked with world-class footballers.

Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele are among the attacking players in the squad, with Aurelien Tchouameni in midfield and an array of top defenders to select from. There was no place for Leny Yoro, but the United defender will set his sights on representing his country at the European Championships in two years.

There was some bad news for United-linked Eduardo Camavinga because he was overlooked by Deschamps following a difficult campaign at Real Madrid.

Transfer to Man Utd is what Eduardo Camavinga needs after World Cup blow

Despite being part of the 2022 World Cup team that finished runners-up to Argentina in Qatar, Camavinga is missing from the France squad this summer.

It has been a frustrating year for Camavinga at the Santiago Bernabeu. The 23-year-old midfielder struggled under Alvaro Arbeloa’s management and had persistent fitness issues.

Real Madrid’s failure to win silverware this season has led to upheaval at the club, with fallings out between key players and the board continuing to make changes to the team during the summer.

Camavinga’s diminished role in La Liga has undoubtedly led to him being overlooked by France. He has averaged just 55 minutes per appearance across 22 league games, with a tally of one goal and one assist.

It bodes well for Camavinga that he’s young because there will be more opportunities to represent France at major tournaments. However, he may want to consider moving his career away from Madrid for a fresh beginning at another big club.

Camavinga would be a good fit for United if he were to become available, considering the Red Devils are embarking on a midfield revamp this summer. It’s also a bonus that the Frenchman is versatile enough to play at left back (another area of concern for United facing into the 2026/27 season).

At 23, Camavinga will be entering his prime over the coming years, so it would be a good time for a club to take him away from Madrid.

While the transfer fee would be significant, Camavinga’s age means his resale value would remain high for the coming years.

It’s food for thought at the very least. Perhaps a move to United is just what Camavinga needs after missing out on the dream of representing France in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

What are your thoughts on the ‘fights’ between Tchouameni and Valverde… does this present an opportunity for United? Or is this a bad omen for a transfer?

Didier Deschamps explains Eduardo Camavinga’s omission

Deschamps told reporters the reason he didn’t select Camavinga for the World Cup was due to the difficult season he had at Real Madrid, as well as the injuries he suffered.

“Camavinga out of the World Cup squad? He is coming off a difficult season where he lacked consistency due to a string of injuries,” Deschamps said, as quoted by BolaVIP.

“He is still young, but I have difficult choices to make and a specific structure required for this list.”
