Casemiro has revived his Manchester United career this season just as it looked as though he could be headed for the exit.
Jamie Carragher told Casemiro last year to “leave the football, before it leaves you”, but the Brazilian midfielder has proven his critics wrong this season.
Under Ruben Amorim, Casemiro is back to his best, and he deserves immense credit for the work he has put in behind the scenes.
Casemiro arrived to pre-season in peak condition, ready to tackle the 2025/26 season head-on, and he has climbed his way back up Amorim’s pecking order.

Casemiro is a role model for Man United youngsters
United legend Rio Ferdinand has told Kobbie Mainoo to learn from Casemiro and follow his footsteps by working his way back into the first team.
As a five-time Champions League winner, Casemiro has invaluable experience at an elite level, and it seems he is doing everything possible to pass that knowledge onto United’s young stars.
As per iNews, Casemiro’s off-pitch contributions have been “equally important” as his impressive performances this season.
The report claims that Casemiro “often takes time to sit with younger players to offer his guidance, making a beeline for them in the dressing room after training sessions.”
The dressing room atmosphere has improved under Amorim, and Casemiro is one of several leaders who have helped to galvanise the squad. His English is said to be “near perfect”, helping him to communicate with Carrington graduates promoted to the first team.
Casemiro deserves contract extension at Man United
Casemiro’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, meaning the 33-year-old is set to leave as a free agent.
Currently, the priority at United is a new contract for Harry Maguire, but focus could soon turn to Casemiro’s future.
There is no denying that the Red Devils need to move on from Casemiro sooner rather than later, with a midfielder a top priority in 2026.
But off-pitch role models are an important dynamic in the dressing room, and Casemiro’s experience is priceless.

Casemiro is United’s highest-paid player with a wage of £350,000, and that is something that will have to change if he wants to stay put at Old Trafford. Ineos have regained control over the wage bill, and Casemiro should only have his stay extended if he agrees to a significant wage cut.
But if the Brazilian is willing to stick around on a slashed deal, then one more year of his knowledge and experience could help a young United squad immeasurably.
