Bruno Fernandes is a man on a mission this season, and a defining message has been sent to English football after his latest game for Portugal.

Form for Portugal has never been a concern for Bruno Fernandes, even when he was being forced to struggle at Man Utd by Ruben Amorim.

Since Michael Carrick shifted him further forward in his natural position, Fernandes has played like a man possessed for club and country.

His latest Portugal performance is the one that will send shivers down the spine of Premier League teams. He’s coming to rewrite the history books.

Bruno Fernandes’s masterful Portugal game vs the USA

After a goalless draw against Mexico to start the international break, through no fault of Fernandes, mind, Portugal wanted to put things right.

The USA were their next opponents, and Fernandes was determined to ensure there would be no repeat of a goalless game.

Portugal beat the USA 2-0, and Fernandes was at his masterful, creative best as he assisted both the goals with his trademark creativity.

Seven players came off at half-time for Portugal, but Fernandes played 85 minutes, the most among the starting XI, as Roberto Martinez just let a master do his work without disturbance.

Unsurprisingly, he was the top-rated player on the pitch, as he combined his two assists with 75 touches, 54 passes, and the odd defensive duty.

Fernandes’ luck turned for the better this game because he created five chances to no avail against Mexico, only for his teammates to convert both his created chances against the USA this time.

Which brings us to the defining message this game sent to English football.

Fernandes is coming to rewrite history books

With 16 assists in the league, Fernandes is four away from matching the all-time record and five away from rewriting the record books.

Seven games remain, and on current form, the only thing that can stop Fernandes from achieving that feat is if his teammates let him down.

If they play as his Portugal teammates did against the USA, Fernandes will easily beat that record.

If they play as his Portugal teammates did against Mexico, it will be a case of close but not close enough.

Either way, Fernandes has sent a defining message to the league. He won’t be stopped in his pursuit of history because this is a player at the top of his game.

Only factors beyond his control, like his teammates’ finishing, can stop him from etching his name at the top of English football.
