The market for elite strikers this summer is competitive, with Manchester United one of several looking for an addition.
After struggling for goals all season, it was always likely that Manchester United would want to replace Rasmus Hojlund up front.
Hojlund has already accepted his fate after two difficult seasons as the leading striker at Old Trafford. This week, it was suggested that United’s transfer negotiator Matt Hargreaves was in Italy to negotiate Hojlund’s sale.
In terms of striker additions, Ineos have already faced hurdles with the lack of European football, along with financial constraints, meaning United cannot afford to be free-spending.
United have joined Arsenal and Chelsea as big Premier League clubs who are looking for a new number nine this summer.
Now, Ruben Amorim’s hopes of signing his dream target, Viktor Gyokeres, have improved.

Arsenal making move to sign Benjamin Sesko
The striker market sees a limited number of forwards considered good enough to attract interest from the top sides, and now Ineos’ top choice, Liam Delap, is Chelsea-bound.
Delap long looked United-bound, with his £30m release clause very tempting for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s financially strained Reds.
Chelsea are also reportedly pushing to sign Hugo Ekitike, according to Florian Plettenberg, while Arsenal are also looking elsewhere for their striker addition.
It is according to Fabrizio Romano that Arsenal have begun making moves to sign Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
Romano adds that Sesko has always been high on Mikel Arteta’s list, and now that the Slovenian is set to depart his club, Arsenal are in the driving seat.
All of this will be music to Manchester United’s ears, opening up a clear run at Gyokeres for a cut-price £55m deal, Amorim’s dream addition this summer.
Manchester United may now have a clear run at Viktor Gyokeres
Ever since Amorim’s arrival, there have been rumours and links drawing Gyokeres to Old Trafford. This summer, Gyokeres was seen as Amorim’s dream signing, a striker he knows he can rely on.
However, after missing out on Europe by losing the Europa League final, it looked like the deal was off. Florian Plettenberg claimed that Gyokeres to United was ‘almost’ off the table.
But now, with Arsenal and Chelsea turning elsewhere for their striker additions this summer, Gyokeres may be in a corner with only Amorim offering him a move away from Portugal.
Gyokeres would be a massive upgrade for United, and hopefully, he will now reconsider a move to Old Trafford.
