Manchester United had some standout performers on Tuesday night, with one continuing to redeem himself under Ruben Amorim.

It was an encouraging night at the City Ground for Manchester United on Tuesday, with a performance which warranted at least a point against the side placed third in the Premier League this season.

With a 13th defeat of the season, United remain 13th in the league, which could become 15th by the time the Manchester Derby rolls around this weekend.

United lost 1-0 to Forest, yet dominated in every other key area of the game for which points were deserved. After the game, Ruben Amorim admitted he was happy with the performance, however ultimately the finishing needs to improve or it makes the performance pointless.

There were a number of strong performers for United in the game, with the defence in particular impressing as they contained Forest well, apart from the goal.

Diogo Dalot impressive for Manchester United

The performance for United was encouraging, with some really nice football being played, particularly in the midfield phase of the build up. This was before the final third looked a lot more tedious.

One player who caught the eye was Diogo Dalot, as he continued to restore fans’ confidence in him after a bad period earlier this season.

Dalot was struggling as a left wing-back earlier this season but has now re-established himself on the right with Patrick Dorgu emerging as a star on the left.

Against Forest, Dalot continued to redeem himself.

Dalot was a reliable outlet down the right while becoming an increasingly impactful option in the attacking third, even if his crosses were slightly erratic.

A few months ago, Dalot was written off at United, but he is now showing the same form that made him a favourite under Erik ten Hag.

Ruben Amorim didn’t need to sign Geovany Quenda

The wing-back positions are pivotal for United’s system under Amorim. Due to this, the club are considering options to bolster the right wing-back position.

United wanted £42m Geovany Quenda before he made the decision to join Chelsea instead, which will have frustrated the head coach. Amorim handed Quenda his debut at Sporting and it was assumed they would reunite at Old Trafford.

United ultimately couldn’t commit so much money to Quenda with other positions taking precedence, and now Dalot has proven this was a wise decision from Ineos.

Without signing a player for the position, Dalot could be backed up by either Bendito Mantato or Jaydan Kamason next season, which would be a method the club surely want to explore with so much talent within the academy.
