£82m Man Utd star has already shown triple signings what they need to do next

First impressions are important, as each of the new Manchester United signings will find out this season.

The dream transfer to Manchester United doesn’t always go to plan as we’ve seen with many players in recent years.

Many of Erik ten Hag’s signings failed to succeed at Old Trafford and that ultimately led to his sacking last October.

Ruben Amorim was later made head coach following a successful stint in charge of Sporting CP. The Portuguese coach endured a difficult first six months at United, but a strong summer transfer window has fans optimistic about the team’s chances this season.

Matheus Cunha signed from Wolves at the beginning of the summer, and Diego Leon arrived following a pre-arranged deal from Cerro Porteno in January. A month later, Bryan Mbeumo joined from Brentford, and United turned their attention towards a centre forward.

That saw Benjamin Sesko join United from RB Leipzig, with the Slovenia international unveiled to the Old Trafford faithful last weekend.

All of the new signings will be aiming to hit the ground running in their new surroundings.

Antony set standards for debut against Arsenal

Cunha and Mbeumo are expected to make their competitive debut for United against Arsenal in the Premier League opener.

Leon may need to wait for his debut as he sits behind Patrick Dorgu in the left wing-back pecking order, and it remains to be seen if Amorim will make Sesko wait for his introduction after missing the pre-season tour in the United States.

If Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko get on the pitch, they will be dreaming of dream debuts by getting on the scoresheet and opening their account at Old Trafford.

Antony has already shown the attacking trio what they need to do after scoring on his United debut against Arsenal in September 2022.

Three days after completing his switch from Ajax, Antony got his debut and took his chance in the 35th minute. He latched on to a Marcus Rashford pass before curling the ball past Aaron Ramsdale to open the scoring.

United went on to win the game 3-1 following a second half brace from Rashford.

Antony went on to become a flop at United and remains on the wage books, with Real Betis trying to force the Red Devils into another loan deal. Ineos would prefer to lose the Brazil international on a permanent deal because he is not part of Amorim’s plans for the future.

After playing 58 minutes on his debut, Antony became the 100th Brazilian to play in the Premier League.

Last 5 players to score on their Man Utd debut

The last player to score on their United debut was Joshua Zirkzee.

The Netherlands international helped United get the 2024/25 campaign off to a positive start when he scored in the 1-0 win over Fulham to launch the season.

Only time will tell if any of United’s debutants will join the list of players to score in their first competitive United appearance.
