Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic admitted that he took incredible satisfaction from silencing one of his harshest critics during his time at Old Trafford.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic completed a blockbuster free transfer move to Manchester United in 2016 after he left Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain.

The 42-year-old Swedish former striker was reunited with former United boss Jose Mourinho, having played under the ‘Special One’ at Inter Milan.

Ibrahimovic had a sensational impact during his first season at Old Trafford, with the former Sweden international scoring 28 times in 46 appearances for United.

The ex-United and PSG star lifted the Europa League trophy and the League Cup in his debut season in England under Jose Mourinho.

However, Ibrahimovic missed the tail end of the 2016-17 season after he suffered ligament damage in his knee, which left him on the sideline for several months.

The former Sweden international extended his stay at Old Trafford and played for United in the 2017-18 campaign, but Ibrahimovic’s influence waned for the club.

Ibrahimovic only managed seven appearances across all competitions for United and scored once in the 2017-18 season before he made his exit from Old Trafford.

Ibrahimovic silenced his critics at Man Utd

Zlatan Ibrahimovic completed his move to LA Galaxy after leaving Manchester United and rediscovered his form after overcoming his serious knee injury in 2017.

The former United striker would return to AC Milan for a second spell before he called it time on his illustrious playing career in 2023.

Speaking on the First We Feast YouTube channel, Ibrahimovic opened up about his time in England and the success that he had at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho.

The former Barcelona and Inter Milan star was thrilled that he silenced the “English media” after they deeply criticised him and described him as a ‘prima donna.’

“The English media always attacked me,” Ibrahimovic said on the ‘Hot Ones.’

“They were like, ‘You think you’re good, but you’re not good. You’re just a prima donna with your ponytail.’

“Then I scored that goal. Oh my god. Do you think I felt good? I felt very good.”

Ibrahimovic on favourite Man Utd chant

Ibrahimovic revealed that he holds a special place in his heart for United fans and one of the “crazy” chants that Red Devils supporters had for the Swede.

“I like the United one, the United one I had was crazy,” he said.

“When they started to sing, I scored in my first game, they started to sing ‘six foot five, hard as f**k.’

“They kept going, I was like, ‘Woah, this is something else.’ They kept singing for 45 minutes and I didn’t even start to play my game yet.

“When you get that support, you feel more strong, you bring it with you and you just want to give it back.”
