Mason Mount has been unveiled as Manchester United’s first signing of the summer and will soon begin pre-season training.

The former Chelsea star will be looking to make an instant impression at Carrington when pre-season training begins.

Fortunately he has form for doing so. A previous loan spell at Derby County saw Mason Mount dazzle players and coaches from the moment he arrived.

Former goalkeeper Shay Given, who was on the coaching staff at the time, was quoted by Goal talking about the instant impression made by the midfielder.

Mason Mount instant impression

Given explained how Mason Mount’s ability made him stand out from the very first moment.

He said: “The first training with us left the players thinking: ‘Wow, who is this guy?!'”

“We knew about him as a young prospect at Chelsea who had done well in Holland [on loan at Vitesse], but it is not until he is actually on the training ground that you really see what kind of player he is.

“He was some player for us. His finishing, power, pace and work rate was great. He is just desperate to be the best he can be.

“Even at Derby, they thought what a player he is going to be from the first training session and he went on from there.”

Mount may have expected to stand out at the Championship side, however, he was only a teenager at the time and many players go on loan in England’s second-tier and don’t grasp the opportunity.

He went on to lead Derby to win promotion, before going back to establish himself as a Chelsea player, and winning the Champions League two years later.

Now he has signed for Manchester United, a move he described as the right one for his career.

Working with manager Erik ten Hag will bring the best out of him, and help him to find the spark and consistency which disappeared last season amid a tumultuous year at Chelsea under three different managers.

At only 24, he has a lot to offer Manchester United, and he will be keen to leave the same ‘wow’ impression when he gets started.
