One of Manchester United’s top prospects completed a loan move on transfer deadline day.
Two years after signing for Manchester United, wonderkid Harry Amass is heading out on his first loan deal.
It has been a rollercoaster two years for the former Watford left-back, who spent his first season impressing in United’s title winning under-18s squad.
Amass’ performances led to first team chances in pre-season under Erik ten Hag, but the Dutchman decided not to call him up for competitive games, following a pattern of distrust for academy left-backs.
Ruben Amorim handed Amass his debut earlier in 2025, even bringing him on in the epic Europa League comeback against Lyon.
This summer Amass has been conspicuous by his absence, overtaken in the pecking order by new signing Diego Leon.
Now in an effort to secure first team football, Amass has signed on loan with Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.

Chido Obi among United stars impressed with Harry Amass
Harry Amass posted to Instagram after he was presented in a Sheffield Wednesday shirt.
He wrote: “Let’s go @swfcofficial ! Delighted to join such a big club can’t wait to play in front of you at Hillsborough, see you soon…”
Amass’ Manchester United teammates reached out on Instagram to congratulate him on a move.
These included another of last season’s debutants, Chido Obi, who simply wrote, “Wow”.
Jack Fletcher and Tyler Fletcher both sent messages to wish Amass luck on the first loan move of his career, where he will hope to catch Ruben Amorim’s eye ahead of next season.

Sheffield Wednesday a good opportunity for Amass
Sheffield Wednesday have been a club in turmoil this summer with fans angry at the conduct of their owner Dejphon Chansiri. They were placed under a transfer embargo until early August, that impacted their squad building.
Ultimately this is how Amass’ path to Sheffield Wednesday came about, with funds limited, and the club in need of extra players.
While this could be a tricky environment for Amass, it could be a rewarding one. He is one of just three young Manchester United loanees to secure loans to Championship clubs, along with Radek Vitek and Toby Collyer.
