We deliberately avoided the furore on Monday which emerged over a clip of Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba on social media.

You’ve probably seen it by now, the two players were seen for approximately one second gesturing towards each other, with Victor Lindelof then putting his arm around Pogba.

Frankly it was impossible to work out what was going on, but that didn’t stop the media jumping to irresponsible conclusions.

‘Pogba and Lingard bust up’ screamed headlines. It even made the back page of The Mirror.

It was a perfect storm for the media.

Two players who have already generated negative headlines this summer supposedly falling out, and re-emphasising their problematic personalities.

Except there was nothing of the sort going on.

A fuller clip released via Utdreport from the tour walkabout in Australia showed the pair were joking and smiling, and the one second which was seen previously, was taken out of context.

It was no surprise, and shows the danger of jumping to conclusions.United tour begins in chaos was one headline.

Anything to suit their agenda.

We know the media were trying to paint United’s social media team as incompetent, but do you really think they are stupid enough to post a video online of two teammates arguing in public?

As usual, a couple of people made assumptions on social media, and the papers ran with those theories as it made a salacious story.

There was no intention to research, find out the facts, let alone dismiss the story.

We are feeling quite glad we ignored it, and are only too glad to point out the media stupidity.

Sure, question the lack of transfers, criticise the Glazers, but this was an attack which wasn’t warranted.

The tabloids have totally embarrassed themselves on this one.
