A former Manchester United player has now been spotted donning the club’s training gear ahead of the summer transfer window.

The summer transfer window as expected has already been kick-started for Manchester United despite the FA Cup final still needing to be played.

The final on Saturday is a season-defining game for Erik ten Hag and United with much speculation over the Dutchman’s future at the club.

However, through all the pre-final excitement and transfer news, there’s been an interesting thing spotted with a former player seen training privately in United gear.

Here’s the whole story…

David de Gea spotted training in Manchester United gear

David de Gea was spotted one year on from his final game for United which happened to also be an FA Cup final, training on his own.

Interestingly, as the Mirror report, this saw him kitted out in United training gear which wasn’t numbered and so unlikely to have been from his days at United.

The Spanish goalkeeper hasn’t played a game since leaving United and has been a free agent since his departure.

Although the Mirror added that he is training to keep fit and earn a contract. They then further claimed he is loyal to United and doesn’t want to sign for any other club which would be a bizarre reality.

De Gea is a legend of the club, and to see him training in the United kit is great as the club clearly means a lot to him, but surely there’s no chance he is re-signed.

De Gea mustn’t be re-signed by Ineos

Letting the once “world class” goalkeeper leave for free last season was a move United had to make, as his limitations were holding the side back with mistakes creeping in on a scarily consistent basis.

After his departure, United replaced De Gea with Andre Onana and while the Cameroonian has been far from perfect in his opening campaign, he’s still been an improvement.

If the club decided to re-sign De Gea, for example in the event Altay Bayindir wants to leave, he could very well be a backup, but the cost of this signing would make it not worth doing.

The cost not being in relation to his wages as we assume they’d be significantly lower than he was on previously. But having him return would open Onana up to much more scrutiny, given the comparisons would be never-ending.
