Wolves manager Rob Edwards explained what he said to his players at half-time after hearing Manchester United fans boo at Old Trafford.
A topsy-turvy 2025 ended as Manchester United drew 1-1 with Wolves on Tuesday night. Ruben Amorim’s side failed to secure back-to-back wins, which would have brought them closer to the Premier League’s top four.
Instead, they dropped two points against one of the worst teams in Premier League history, just three weeks after United won 4-1 at Molineux. That result helped boost confidence ahead of kick-off, but Joshua Zirkzee’s opening goal was cancelled out before the break when Wolves scored the important equaliser.
The real reason why Ruben Amorim subbed off Man Utd striker Joshua Zirkzee against Wolves… 🤔👀
Did Ruben Amorim make a major mistake taking Joshua Zirkzee off? 😩 Should Benjamin Sesko come off instead of Zirkzee? Let us know YOUR verdict! ✍️
It was yet another game in the 2025/26 season that saw United miss an opportunity to take advantage of the teams around them in the table, dropping points. They wasted a chance to cut the gap with third-placed Aston Villa following their 4-1 defeat to league leaders Arsenal.
United will be aiming to be in a higher position come the end of the year, but they will need to shake off the feeling of disappointment rather than dwell on another poor result.

Man Utd fans boo at Old Trafford after Wolves draw
The mood was low at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, even though fans arrived with optimism, hoping that the team would build on their win against Newcastle.
Patrick Dorgu saw a 90th-minute goal ruled out for offside, and the boos that rang at half-time were heard again at the full-time whistle.
Wolves boss Rob Edwards confirmed after the match that he used the reaction of United fans as ammunition to get at Amorim’s side in the second half.
“We talked about that [at] half time,” Edwards said, as quoted by Simon Peach.
“We said to the lads, even when we were walking up to the tunnel, ‘listen, listen’ because we know how difficult it is to play in front of an] unhappy crowd at the moment. Ours are rightly unhappy. I get it, so I’m not complaining about that. We have to try and play on that.”
Are you worried about Benjamin Sesko? Do you think he can turn this around quickly?
What is going wrong for Sesko in front of goal?
United fans have always rallied behind Amorim and his team to get results, but they are bound to let their feelings be known when they feel standards are not being met. That has been the case at Old Trafford throughout the season.
Meanwhile, the travelling Wolves fans cheered on their team as their 19th match of a miserable campaign brought a third point and first positive result of Edwards’ reign.
Wolves fans are unlikely to be cheering at the end of the season, with Edwards’ side destined to return to the Championship.
United can bounce back from the Wolves disappointment with a win over Leeds on Sunday.
Leeds have not beaten Man Utd since 2010
It’s been over 10 years since Leeds last recorded a victory over the Red Devils.
United have won five of the seven meetings since then, but their last defeat came in January 2010 when Jermaine Beckford scored the only goal at Old Trafford.
It was a shocking result that many United fans won’t need reminding about, but Amorim needs to avoid a similar outcome when his players travel to Elland Road.
