When Willy Kambwala came in to make his Manchester United debut against West Ham as a starter, it was always likely it would just be a one-off, amid a defensive injury crisis.
Unsurprisingly, Kambwala dropped out of the team with Raphael Varane available, but he was still able to make his presence felt at Old Trafford against Aston Villa.
Kambwala was an 89th minute substitute and played 10 minutes in total amid a long portion of added time at the end, and helped see out an impressive 3-2 victory.
Kambwala emotional at full-time
When the final whistle blew, Willy Kambwala was even more emotional than matchwinners Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho.
The young Frenchman celebrated closely with Andre Onana and Raphael Varane after helping the team to close out the win.
He sent a message saying he found it hard to describe how happy he is to have made his first steps at the Theatre of Dreams as a first team player.
Great management from Ten Hag
It was great management from manager Erik ten Hag to get Willy Kambwala involved again right away.
After making his debut in a dispiriting away defeat at West Ham, despite his own strong contribution, Kambwala may have been wondering when his next chance may come.
Ten Hag ensured the young defender did not have to wait too long, getting him back involved as soon as possible, and contributing to a win.
Now Kambwala can feel for real that he is a Manchester United player, helping the team to a very impressive three points.
He was one of several youngsters involved, with Dan Gore and Hannibal Mejbri also sent on as late substitutes, while Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho led the team as starters.
