While we hoped Greenwood would get an early debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the interim boss has resisted the urge.
However back on December 23, The Mirror reported that Solskjaer told Greenwood to ‘be ready’ for United’s FA Cup clash with Reading.
United face Reading at Old Trafford at 12.30pm on Saturday (tomorrow) and Greenwood will be hoping Solskjaer sticks to his word.
Solskjaer has had a dream start as United boss, winning four matches from four.
United are heavy favourites to beat Reading, who sit in lowly 23rd place in the Championship.
Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez are both pushing for their first starts under Solksjaer, and need the game time.
This could present a problem for Greenwood’s chances.
Both have performed well in their brief minutes under the new boss and United need to get them at full fitness and sharpness for the Premier League game with Spurs.
Greenwood is most likely to feature from the bench than as a starter.
Giving the teenage striker an opportunity would be the perfect way to get United’s FA Cup campaign off to a stormer.
His prolific performances for the academy have yielded more than 20 goals already this season, and he deserves a first team chance.
There’s a good opportunity he makes his debut tomorrow, and if he bursts the back of the net, Old Trafford will roar.
