Why West Ham vs Manchester United is on TV at 7 PM

West Ham vs Manchester United in the Premier League will kick off at 7 PM tonight, which is very unusual for a league fixture. Why is this the case?

David Moyes takes on his old side in what is a vitally important fixture for both sides. Erik ten Hag will be desperate for a win that takes them one step closer to their Champions League dream.

On the other hand, West Ham still isn’t safe from the drop. They currently sit four points above Nottingham Forest in 18th, so a win for the Hammers could be vital.

This should be a cracking fixture and is rightly being shown on TV, but why at 7 PM?

Why is West Ham v Man United taking place at 7 pm?

The fixture between the two sides was initially meant to be played earlier on, however, due to King Charles III’s coronation this weekend, the match had to be moved.

The change comes about as police resources were lacking and safety issues would have arisen. So, the decision was made to spread the games out over the course of the weekend.

This has led to some strange kick-off times in other fixtures. We also saw the first ever televised 3 PM Saturday kick-off on Sky Sports as Manchester City beat Leeds United.

In a statement about the fixture changes, the Premier League had the following to say.

“The Premier League apologises to supporters for the delay in announcing these fixtures and understands their frustrations.

“Finalising these particular selections took longer than expected due to complications around the scheduling on the weekend of the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort.”

The Red Devils will probably be glad of the change. It gives them a couple of extra hours of recovery to prepare in what has been a ridiculously hectic schedule as of late.
