Toby Collyer ruled out of Hull City’s Championship play-off final

Collyer has spent the second half of the season on loan with Hull City.

The 22-year-old midfielder hasn’t played since picking up an injury at the start of April against promoted side Coventry City.

Although he wasn’t fit enough to play in both legs of Hull City’s play-off semi-final against Millwall, Collyer attended those matches with the hope of being fit to make the final.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Collyer has returned to United this week after running out of time to prove his fitness in time for Hull City’s Championship play-off final against Middlesbrough.

Collyer will continue his rehabilitation at Carrington. He is expected to be available for pre-season in July.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the play-off final after Middlesbrough were reinstated to the final after Southampton were eliminated in the wake of the ‘spygate’ scandal.

It remains to be seen if Collyer will be in attendance at Wembley to back Hull City on Saturday. They may attempt to re-sign him on loan if they secure Premier League promotion.

Ultimately, it’s a huge shame that Collyer won’t be able to feature in the play-off final. It would have been a great experience for the young midfielder.

Paddy McNair pushing for Premier League promotion

Collyer may be out of the final, but former United centre-back Paddy McNair is expected to be named on the bench for Hull City.

McNair signed for Hull City from San Diego in January and could find himself back playing in the Premier League next season.

The Northern Ireland international has made 14 appearances for Hull City since joining the Tigers midway through the campaign.

The 31-year-old now has an opportunity to end the season on a high note.
