Manchester United goalkeeper Matej Kovar has now withdrawn from playing at the European under-21 championships.

Matej Kovar had been expected to star for Czech Republic at the tournament, set to kick off on June 21.

Kovar, 23, was eligible to play as he was 21 at the time qualifying for the finals began.

But he will now miss out due to injury, report Czech outlet iSport.

Matej Kovar dealing with injury

Matej Kovar is still celebrating after his Sparta Prague side won the Czech title last season.

His loan spell was a big success, and he is interested in staying for a second season, report Czech outlet Expres.

He now apparently has a knee injury, which has led to him not being selected for the European under-21 championships.

This is a disappointment for Kovar, who is high in confidence right now, but it might do him some good, after a long season in which he played 32 matches.

Playing at the tournament would have delayed his start for the 2023/24 season, whether that be at Manchester United or Sparta Prague.

At United, Erik ten Hag may want to take a look at him and assess him first hand, while if he signed for Sparta Prague permanently or on another loan, he will have Champions League qualifiers to play.

His top focus right now will be getting fit again, for whatever challenge is next for him.
