The one big chance Manchester United created against Sevilla fell to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Manchester United were beaten 3-0 by Sevilla in the Europa League second leg and crashed out of the competition.
Seville were the better team from start to finish and deserved their win. United simply did not create enough chances.
The one decent chance United did manufacture, fell to the one player you would not want it to fall to.
Ten Hag on Wan-Bissaka miss
Aaron Wan-Bissaka had a chance late in the first half and shot straight at the goalkeeper.
To be fair, it was pretty much what you would expect from a player who has not scored just two goals in 198 career appearances.
Erik ten Hag was still annoyed, insisting that in a difficult game like this, you simply have to take your chances.
He told his press conference: “We had a big chance with Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It was a big chance to come back but we didn’t bounce back in this game.
“Of course, I’m very disappointed. I expect much more. The fans expect much more and they are right.”
This was the only shot United had on target in the first half and one of just three overall.
Wan-Bissaka did not make it out for the second half, substituted as part of a tactical switch which saw Luke Shaw come on at left-back, and Diogo Dalot switching right-back.
It’s clear with United chasing the game, Ten Hag felt Dalot offered more going forward, even though on this occasion it amounted to nothing.
There isn’t much between them to be fair. Dalot has two goals this season to Wan-Bissaka’s none.
Meanwhile in one of the other quarter-finals, rumoured transfer target Jeremie Frimpong scored his ninth goal of the season for Bayer Leverkusen.
