Manchester United recognised the development that Wooster had shown over the 2021/22 season as a semi-regular U18 player. He has also spent time on a work experience loan with Bradford City’s Under-19 team. He won the EFL Youth Alliance North East with the Bantams.

Where and when was Tom Wooster born?

Manchester United youth talent Tom Wooster was born on March 30, 2005. He was born in Sheffield, Yorkshire and went on to join Barnsley’s youth ranks before joining the Red Devils.

Tom Wooster is a highly-rated academy gem at Manchester United and also made Ten Hag’s plans in pre-season in 2023. The Dutchman named the former England U16 international on the bench for the Red Devils’ friendly against Athletic Bilbao. But Wooster did not feature.

The match in Dublin marked the first time that Wooster had travelled for any of Manchester United’s first-team games. Ten Hag fielded Heaton between the sticks as Facundo Pellistri’s late goal secured a 1-1 draw. Nico Williams had broken the deadlock during the first period.

Ten Hag elected to give Wooster the experience of a first-team travelling squad as a reward for his Under-18 exploits. The prospect played 10 times for the Red Devils’ U18s in 2021/22 and seven times during 2022/23.

What has been said about Tom Wooster?

Wooster also spent the end of the 2022/23 season on loan with Ramsbottom United in the North West Counties League Premier Division. He joined the Rams in February 2023 and he saved a late penalty away to Workington AFC on Wooster’s debut to save his side one point.

Then-manager Lee Doanfee told Ramsbottom’s club website after Wooster’s debut: “Tom has settled in really well with the group in the two weeks that he’s been here.

“Making your debut away to Workington is always going to be a tough test. But I felt it was one that he came through with his head held high. Credit to him as his individual performance was very good and one that was matched by the rest of the lads.”

A loan spell in non-league marked the latest step on Wooster’s fledgling career. His CV also features Barnsley naming the promising goalkeeper as their Academy Player of the Year for the 2020/21 season. Wooster’s efforts that season secured his move to Manchester United.
