Who is Ian Subiabre? Man Utd transfer target teenage sensation who can be club’s own Bernardo Silva

Ineos’ youth revolution is at full swing at Manchester United but the crown jewel of that revolution could be yet to arrive, as Ian Subiabre is on the club’s radar for a potential summer move.

Ruben Amorim has a reputation for working with and developing younger players to fulfill their potential and there aren’t many players in Argentina right now with a higher potential than Ian Subiabre.

United were recently linked to Subiabre, who said he looks at Julian Alvarez as an example, but he could well be United’s own Bernardo Silva.

Considering how much trouble the Portuguese has given to United managers under Pep Guardiola at Man City, it would be poetic if Subiabre turns into a version of him at Old Trafford now.

Here’s all you need to know about Ian Subiabre, one of Argentina’s brightest talents right now.

Who is Ian Subiabre?

Ian Subiabre is a left-footed right-winger who is equally as capable of playing behind the striker due to his dribbling skills and an eye for a pass.

He plays for River Plate and the 2024/25 season has been something of a breakthrough for him, becoming a part of the senior team after impressing in the youth ranks.

Subiabre has mainly played as a centre-forward in his breakthrough season but due to his diminutive figure, his long-term future might be on the wings, especially on the right where he can come inside on his left foot.

When and where was Ian Subiabre born?

Subiabre was born on January 1, 2007, making him 18 years old at the time of writing. He was born in Comodoro in Argentina but is also eligible to play for Chile via his lineage.

Clearly, Argentina’s Comodoro to Manchester will be quite a trek but he will be joined by fellow South American youngster Diego Leon in the summer if he joins.

Ian Subiabre national team

Subiabre is yet to declare his allegiance to a national team since he has played for Chile at the U17 level but has since progressed through the ranks with Argentina.

He’s made 20 appearances for Argentina U17s and six for the U20s at the time of writing, scoring thrice for the latter as he breaks through.

Ian Subiabre position

As mentioned above, Subiabre has played centre-forward mainly this season but his versatility makes him an asset for any manager.

He can play all across the front line and his long-term future will likely be in a deeper role where he doesn’t have to engage in physical duels all the time.

Ian Subiabre style of play

Subiabre is a nifty operator who likes to move in small pockets of space, where his agility and dribbling skills come to the fore.

He always looks to pass the ball forward and if there’s no option, willing to progress it by himself by beating his man off the dribble.

In Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1, he’ll likely be one of the two attacking midfielders hoping to have an impact as Amad has playing as the right-sided No. 10.

He will have to improve his physicality to thrive in English football, but his low centre of gravity makes him deceptively strong, as does his ability to shift the ball on either foot which makes him a foul magnet.

With proper coaching and physical work, he could be the closest thing United have to Bernardo Silva, or closer to home, Amad.

Ian Subiabre height

Subiabre stands at 1.71m, which translates to 5’6″, hardly a man mountain but he can look towards the likes of Amad, Sergio Aguero, or Bernardo Silva as players who didn’t need to be dominant aerially to overwhelm the opposition.
