Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been nominated for the Premier League’s EA Sports player of the month award for September.

The 36-year-old has scored three goals in three games since making an emotional return to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo started life back at the Theatre of Dreams with two goals on his second debut against Newcastle United.

He then backed that up with a crucial equaliser at the London Stadium in the 2-1 win against West Ham.

United’s number seven has also scored goals in both of his Champions League games against Young Boys and the priceless last-minute winner against Villarreal last night.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner will be going up against five other players for the monthly gong – Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo, Liverpool’s Mo Salah, Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, Antonio Rudiger of Chelsea and Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin.

His compatriot Cancelo hasn’t conceded a goal during September and got the crucial assist in City’s 1-0 win against Chelsea.

Similar to Ronaldo, Salah has three goals during September, his last, which came against Brentford took him to 100 Premier League goals for Liverpool.

Sarr also has three goals during September and they have come in his last two games with two against Norwich City and the equaliser against Newcastle.

Rudiger scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 win away to Tottenham whilst Saint-Maximin was the only player to register a goalscoring contribution in every game he played in during September (one goal and two assists).
