Toby Collyer impressed during his first appearance under new Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim.
With Manchester United down to 10 men and fending off Arsenal in North London, Ruben Amorim looked to his bench and picked out Toby Collyer as his next substitute.
The Red Devils were facing the prospect of a gruelling 30 minutes of extra time at The Emirates and reports claim Collyer’s running stats are “freakish” and only topped by Bruno Fernandes – who played the entire 120 minutes against Arsenal.
Importantly, Amorim chose not to bring on the experienced Casemiro and instead opted for Collyer, who was “excellent” according to Rio Ferdinand.
It was Collyer’s fourth senior appearance of the season, but his first under Amorim having missed the first few weeks of his tenure out injured. He will soon want to challenge for a starting spot.

Toby Collyer must improve one thing to become a Man United starter
If United plan to win the Premier League, Amorim says his players must run like “mad dogs”. Collyer certainly proved he can do that against Arsenal.
However, just like Kobbie Mainoo isn’t a finished product according to Amorim, neither is Collyer. There is one aspect of his game he must improve to become a regular starter.
As per The Athletic, Amorim’s demand for greater physicality in his side is something that very much suits Collyer.
However, Amorim also wants his midfielders to be very good at progressing play. The report claims if Collyer can “prove himself to be a consistent progressive passer over longer distances” then that will help him claim a starting spot at United.
Amorim has struck a good balance in midfield using Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo, but he also admires Collyer and wants him to stick around at Old Trafford for the second half of the season.
Man United make Toby Collyer loan decision
Prior to his minutes against Arsenal, reports suggested Collyer wanted a January loan move to gather first-team experience elsewhere.
Collyer has been a target for Leicester City, with former United coach and interim Ruud van Nistelrooy eager to bring him to the King Power Stadium.
However, Amorim and United have decided that Collyer will not be going on loan this season, as per The Athletic report above.
Given the unconvincing form of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro – and the fact that the duo have been heavily linked with an exit this month – Collyer is in line to get more game time in the second half of the season.

He has made the bench for United’s last four Premier League games under Amorim but is yet to make an appearance in the league.
Collyer will hope that changes when United face a struggling Southampton side on Thursday night at Old Trafford.
