Eagle-eyed Manchester United fans spotted footage of one touching moment involving Sir Alex Ferguson during Rangers’ 4-1 thumping at the hands of Lyon in the Europa League.
Sir Alex Ferguson, who is widely regarded as one of the best managers of all time, was in attendance for Thursday’s European match at the Ibrox Stadium.
Malick Fofana opened the scoring for Lyon in the 10th minute before Tom Lawrence pulled Rangers back into the contest only four minutes later with an equaliser.
However, Alexandre Lacazette restored Lyon’s lead in the 19th minute of the contest before the ex-Arsenal striker scored his brace in the first half of injury time.
Malick Fofana then completed his brace in the second half and the Ligue 1 club signed off a 4-1 steamrolling of Rangers on their trip to Scotland.
Ferguson watched on as Rangers failed to mount a comeback against Lyon, all the while Manchester United were in action in the Europa League as well.

Ferguson during Porto vs Man Utd
Manchester United rescued an important point on Thursday evening during their 3-3 encounter with Porto in the Europa League clash at the Estadio do Dragao.
Erik ten Hag’s men blew a 2-0 lead in the first half against Porto after Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund both found the back of the net.
Goals from Pepe and Samu Omorodion pulled Porto level before half-time, with Vitor Bruno’s men taking the lead against United only five minutes in the second half.
United were reduced to 10 men after Bruno Fernandes was sent off, but the Red Devils salvaged a draw after an injury-time header from Harry Maguire.
Footage from TNT Sports made the rounds on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, of Sir Alex Ferguson at the Ibrox Stadium against Rangers.
United fans were convinced that Ferguson was checking the result of the Porto match after looking down and appearing to mouth what happened in the tie.
Reacting to the footage, one United fan account on X claimed that Ferguson said: “3-3 to United, 3-3. Harry Maguire.”
Ten Hag sends message after Porto draw
Ten Hag’s men have managed only two points from their opening two Europa League matches of the season after the result against Porto on Thursday.
United kicked off their Europa League campaign last week and blew a 1-0 lead against FC Twente at Old Trafford, with Ten Hag’s side settling for a 1-1 draw.
Ten Hag sent a rallying call to his players and urged them to “step up” after failing to secure all three points in the Europa League tie in Portugal.
“We will work and we will continue and we will fight,” he told TNT Sports, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“You see the spirit and the connection between the staff and the team. Between the players, together, there’s a strong spirit.
“We want to achieve and we are in that [same] direction. We have that mentality and spirit-wise, but especially in some defending parts, we have to step up.”
