Manchester United’s new investors Ineos are digging into the mess behind the scenes under the Glazer regime.
The closer Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford look under the hood at Manchester United, the more horrified they will be.
This is a club which needed renovation and innovation after Sir Alex Ferguson retired, not complacency.
One man who could tell Ineos a thing or two would be former interim boss Ralf Rangnick, who was brought in with a view to becoming a strategic consultant, but was so critical he ended up being ushered out of Old Trafford before he could even begin.

Ralf Rangnick was unimpressed
Ralf Rangnick famously declared Manchester United needed open heart surgery to fix the problems at the club.
And those were the comments he made in public. You can imagine what he may have said more scathingly in private.
Well, one of his former Red Bull associates Jesse Marsch has been speaking on a podcast with Simon Jordan, and has relayed the message from Ralf Rangnick about Manchester United.
Marsch explained: “What I heard from Ralf and others that were there at the time was that the cohesion at the club was next to zero.
“That the communication with the scouting departments, sporting departments, directors – that made them feel there wasn’t much of a future there, and that was the case.
“In any club, especially the best, the pressure from within for everyone to understand what the identity is, and the commitment for everyone to stay disciplined to do that everyday, normally dictates how good they can become. From afar, and from what I’ve heard, that has been lost at Man United.”
Manchester United need new direction
Ineos can provide the direction Manchester United need, and give the staff behind the scenes a lift.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke at Carrington last week, where he reportedly, per The Athletic, told staff that Ineos plan to be ‘present’ at Manchester United throughout.
That is a direct contrast the Glazers’ hands-off approach, running United from afar in the USA.
Is it any wonder Rangnick found a ‘lack of cohesion’ between departments at Old Trafford?
