What opponents have spotted about Man Utd goalkeeper Andre Onana and how they are trying to expose him

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been the subject of some harsh criticism this season after a rocky start.

The enigmatic keeper was brought into the club from Inter Milan for £43 million this summer and was seen as the perfect replacement for David De Gea who left the club this summer upon the expiry of his contract.

It’s fair to say that the Cameroon goalkeeper has not had the best start in Manchester United’s colours after a few high-profile errors.

Andre Onana was lucky to avoid conceding a penalty against Wolves on his debut for the club but gave two cheap goals away against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray in the Champions League.

It has now emerged that opposition teams are targeting the former Ajax goalkeeper.

Onana weakness exposed

According to a report from Mike McGrath in The Telegraph, opposition analysts have noticed a potential weakness in the 27-year-old’s game.

It is said that the goalkeeper sticks to his line too much when the Red Devils don’t have the ball and that analysts have encouraged their players to take shots against Onana.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper has conceded 18 goals this season, one less than Sheffield United, who lost 8-0 to Newcastle United a couple of weeks ago.

Concerns are mounting and there have been calls for Erik ten Hag to drop his number one goalkeeper.

Should Onana be dropped

“He can be one of the best goalkeepers in the world. We have seen already his great capabilities and also his personality. He will bounce back,” Ten Hag said when asked about whether the goalkeeper needed dropping.

Ten Hag is right about the personality of the 27-year-old. He certainly believes in his own abilities and is confident enough to front up to the media if he makes a mistake, as seen after the defeat to Bayern Munich.

Altay Bayindir, United’s signing from Fenerbahce, has been waiting patiently for his chance in the first team and maybe now is the time for the Turk to come in and take the pressure off Onana.
