It now appears that Manchester United are closing in on the permanent appointment of Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim.
Manchester United decided to sack Erik ten Hag after the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat to West Ham United at the London Stadium and it appears that Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe are moving quickly to appoint their successor.
According to reports, Ruben Amorim appears to be favourite to take over at Old Trafford with the exciting Portuguese manager ‘ticking boxes’ at the club.
Amorim has never managed against the Red Devils during his career but has played at Old Trafford against United.

What happened when Ruben Amorim visited Old Trafford
During Amorim’s days as a player, the Portuguese played as a midfielder, but could also be deployed as a right-back.
Amorim played for Belenenses and SL Benfica before a loan move to Portuguese side SC Braga during the 2012/2013 season, where he would make 46 appearances for the club.
The 2012/2013 season proved to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge of the Red Devils and United were drawn to play SC Braga home and away in the UEFA Champions League group stages.
After losing to Galatasaray 1-0 and beating Cypriot side CFR Cluj 2-1, the Red Devils took on Braga with Amorim lining up in midfield for the Portuguese side.
United would go on to win that match 3-2 but it was a very dramatic night at Old Trafford.
United’s dramatic 3-2 win over Braga
During that UEFA Champions League tie at Old Trafford, Braga had raced into a two-goal lead thanks to two goals from Brazilian forward Alan.
The Red Devils, as they so often proved under Ferguson, showed off their powers of recovery with Javier Hernandez halving the deficit before Jonny Evans drew the Red Devils level.
Hernandez went on to score the winning goal with 15 minutes left to play with Amorim watching on as his side let a two-goal lead slip.
The atmosphere at Old Trafford on that night was electric with the fans seemingly willing the ball into the goal as Braga struggled to keep out the irresistible force of Ferguson’s reds.
It now appears that Amorim will be the man to replace Ten Hag and call Old Trafford his home. Amorim will be tasked with trying to lead the Red Devils back to Premier League and European glory.
