Where is Teden Mengi?
Although he hasn’t played for the Red Devils’ first team competitively since a Champions League appearance in 2021 – Mengi is currently at the club.
He has been sent on loan a couple of times during his Manchester United tenure. In February 2021, he was sent on loan to Championship club Derby County, managed by United legend Wayne Rooney at the time, for the remainder of the 2020–21 season.
In March, he signed a new contract with the Red Devils to keep him at the club until June 2024, with the option of another year. After suffering an injury in April, Mengi returned to United early from Derby.
Mengi joined another Championship club in Birmingham City in January 2022 on loan for the rest of the 2021–22 season. He impressed, but a recurring hamstring injury meant he made just ten appearances – which was a real shame for him.
Since then he’s returned to United, but his injuries have been a problem – so he hasn’t been featuring much, even for the academy sides.

Why is he currently not playing?
United have a bit of a defensive crisis at the moment, with both Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane out injured – so why isn’t Mengi in the running to be playing?
The reason why is that Mengi is currently recovering from an injury that he sustained playing in a Winter friendly against Real Betis, which forced him off just minutes into the match.
It’s a shame that Mengi”s career thus far has been plagued with injury issues, as he did look really promising. This current situation could have been an ideal chance for him to step up. We wish Mengi a speedy recovery.
