The Legends Football League is an all-new tournament featuring some of Manchester United’s best-ever players.
The first fixture took place yesterday, with game one of the tournament kicking off with the Steel Doctor Red Devils, or as we know them Manchester United, and a World XI battling it out.
It featured a host of iconic Manchester United legends, including the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Patrice Evra and Dwight Yorke.
Here’s everything that we know happened in the fixture, gathered from the Legends Football League Instagram account.

Manchester United Legends XI
Here’s how the Manchester United legends squad looked on the day.
- Julio Cesar

- Patrice Evra
- Juan Sebastian Veron
- Wes Morgan
- Wesley Brown
- Dimitar Berbatov
- Dwight Yorke
- Eric Djemba-Djemba
- Nathan Dyer

- Jesper Blomqvist
- Mo
We are well aware that some of these aren’t ex-United players. Wes Morgan, Nathan Dyer and Julio Cesar were evidently present to make up the numbers. Were also not entirely sure who ‘Mo’ is.
World XI
Here’s how the World XI squad looked on the day.

- Robert Huth
- Robert Pires
- Didier Drogba
- Frederic Piquionne
- Florent Malouda

- Rivaldo
However judging by some of the comments on Instagram, it appears a few of these names didn’t show up, which led to anger among fans.
Result and Goalscorers
The game really wasn’t very well documented, but after scouring Instagram stories – we’ve managed to work out the following.
Final Score: Manchester United Legends 3 – 8 World XI
Manchester United Goal Scorers: Patrice Evra, Dimitar Berbatov
Man of the Match: Clarence Seedorf
Despite a severe lack of coverage, David James posted on his Instagram story the full-time result.
The Legends Football League Instagram also documented that Evra scored on their story, whilst an attendee on X confirmed a Berbatov strike with a Wes Brown assist.
Berbatov also missed a penalty, as shown on Instagram stories. Feedback on the game hasn’t gone down well from fans, with the whole thing seemingly very unorganised.
Following this opening game in Dubai, the six-team league will now travel to India in January 2024 for its second game, followed by matches in Qatar, UK and France.
Let’s hope they’re a little more prepared going forward.
