Alex Telles reacts to scoring first Manchester United goal in Villarreal win
Alex Telles chose the perfect moment and occasion to score his first goal for Manchester United.
With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side trailing against Villarreal going into the final third of the game at Old Trafford, Telles brought the Theatre of Dreams to life with a stunning volley.
It was similar to Arjen Robben’s goal for Bayern Munich at Old Trafford in 2010, but instead of being on the receiving end, United found themselves level thanks to a moment of brilliance from Telles.
Bruno Fernandes’ perfectly floated free kick was lashed home by the former Porto man at a time when United were needing a hero.
The Brazilian full-back’s attacking qualities galvanised his teammates and broke a stubborn Yellow Submarine defence.
He also showed his willingness to put his body on the line for the team when he flung himself in front of a Boulaye Dia effort.
Telles couldn’t contain his delight at scoring his first goal for the Reds and its a moment he would have dreamed about over and over again.
The 28-year-old sent a message to the United fans after an emotional night.
Telles’ teammates were delighted for the man who was sporting a new haircut for the Champions League game and shared their love for the left-back with their messages.
Premier League start
Luke Shaw could well be back for the game against Everton at the weekend, but it’s not an especially good sign that he hasn’t trained since limping off against Aston Villa.
And with Telles scoring his first goal for the club his confidence will be sky high and he will be eager to make his first Premier League start of the season.
The Brazilian international could be up against an in-form Andros Townsend who has started the season well for his new club.
Telles will be on cloud nine and the response from his teammates show how valued and loved he is in this Manchester United team.
