Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has seen himself criticised by Ian Wright amid what has been a difficult start this season.

Erik ten Hag has had the nightmare start this season in both the Champions League and Premier League. 12 points from eight games, with four wins and four losses, not how many saw this season going.

In the Champions League it has been even worse, two high scoring losses, a 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich and a 3-2 loss to Galatasaray sees United rock bottom of the group.

The poor start has seen much criticism come the way of Ten Hag. This has only been worsened after the impact Ange Postecoglou has had in such a short time at Spurs, including a 2-0 defeat against them.

Ian Wright on Erik ten Hag

Ian Wright was asked to compare the two managers on the Stick to Football Podcast.

To this question there was only one winner for the former Arsenal legend: “Come on man, it’s Postecoglou.

“It shouldn’t even be compared at the minute with what he’s done at Tottenham in such a short space of time.”

Roy Keane then reminded Wright that Ten Hag won a trophy last season, to this Wright replied: “He’s won a trophy yeah, but he’s won a trophy in a time when they weren’t expecting too much it was all about the results and getting in there, so whatever got you in there is gonna suffice.

“But you’re telling me now, you start a new season and we’re still seeing… what are we seeing.”

Vital period to turn the season around

Manchester United face an important period over the next few weeks if they are to turn this season around.

The win against Brentford should build some momentum but it needs to be followed up on.

A trip to Bramall Lane to face bottom of the league Sheffield United followed by Copenhagen and Manchester City at Old Trafford, all extremely important games.

Following this, Newcastle in the League Cup then Fulham away, Copenhagen away, Luton at home and Everton away are all winnable and vital games for Ten Hag.
